Hello! Welcome to Work from Home Happiness. I’ll be your tour guide and sometimes cheerleader as you set out to escape your cubicle.
Who am I?
I’m Ashlee Anderson. Nice to meet you.
I truly believe that the future of work has no geographic boundaries and that everyone should have the freedom to work wherever they’re happiest. For some that may mean from their home offices and others while traveling the world. And my goal is to empower and encourage out-of-the-cubicle thinkers everywhere to kick their cubicles to the curb.
After all, why spend nine hours a day in an office if you don’t want to?
So, if you’re looking for an alternative to the typical 9-to-5, you’ve landed in the right spot!
While the name of the blog is Work from Home Happiness, my main objective is to help others find happiness in working on their own terms.
Yes, sometimes this means working from home. But other times it means freelancing, solopreneurship, or even full on location independence allowing you to work from Baltimore, Bali, Starbucks or Boise — the choice is yours.
This blog is my way of sharing what I’ve learned in the last six years as a remote worker and to (hopefully) serve as inspiration to help you realize that you too can achieve work happiness as a telecommuter.
Since launching back in 2015, I’ve covered dozens of real work from home options and ways to earn money remotely in hundreds of blog posts. For newcomers, the sheer volume of information on the site can be overwhelming. That’s why I created this page containing my best resources to date.
Ready? Let’s go! Oh, but before I forget, you can always reach me by email at email@example.com or say hello on Twitter if you ever have a question, need help or just want to chat.

Your current career may not be remote-friendly. And that’s ok. There are plenty of career paths that are. And if you’re new to the world of work from home, you may have to learn a new skill or freshen up existing knowledge to land the right remote job for you. Fear not, I’ve put together a lot of helpful how-to guides aimed specifically at newbies who want to work from home, but have no idea where to start.
Sometimes it’s just nice to see who is currently hiring to take your job search from there. I understand. That’s why I put together a weekly roundup of remote job leads from real companies hiring out-of-the-cubicle thinkers, like you! Be sure to stop by often, as you’ll never know what you’ll find.
For Aspiring Freelancers
Freelancing may be one of the quickest ways to kick your cubicle to the curb. But for many, the idea of freelancing when you’ve never freelanced before is, in a word, scary!
But it doesn’t have to be. About 1 in 3 workers now freelances. If they can do it, you can too. And it’s easier than you may believe. To help you see just how simple it is to take part in the freelance life, I’ve put together a few must-read resources.
I always say, “If you can do it, you can freelance it.” It’s true. Freelance services are super diverse. You don’t have to be a writer or designer to make it as a freelancer. Just about any skill can translate well to a profitable, service-based business as a freelancer. That’s why I put together a handy guide to help you identify at least one skill that you can easily sell.
Once you figure out your profitable skill, it’s time to start selling! To set yourself apart from the sea of freelancers, you’ll need a freelance website that sells your service for you. This gives you a chance to showcase your work, wow clients with your abilities, and serves as your virtual business card.
Needless to say, your freelance website is super important. But you don’t have to hire a designer or shell out big bucks to get a professional one up and running. You can easily DIY a freelance service site and kick your freelance service biz into high gear ASAP.
After you set up your freelance website, you may not get a ton of work heading your way. And that’s ok. There are some websites out there that are a marketplace of freelance jobs you can pitch for. But not all freelance websites are created equal. That’s why I put together a roundup of some of the best freelance marketplaces you’ll want to consider if you want to start pitching to gigs right now.
