Chances are, a company hiring nationally for remote workers will post their job in one or two of the largest markets. Hint: Make sure the “telecommute” box is checked when searching!

Google Alerts are one of the lesser-known ways to find work from home jobs, but can be effective! You can set an alert for anything, even job leads. Some of the keywords you might want to target include “work at home,” “remote work,” “freelance,” “online job.” You’ll be sent an email each time something is published that matches your alert. This can be done as it happens, once a day, once a week or at a frequency of your choosing!
Indeed Jobs
Indeed is a job search engine. It crawls thousands of websites each day to bring together all the latest job listings to one spot. It’s a really user-friendly way to find a variety of remote, freelance, and work-from-home jobs. You can search by location, keyword, or job type. Udemy has thousands of online courses available on just about everything. Whether you want to become a better photographer, master the art of social media marketing, or try your hand as a web developer, there’s an informative (and affordable!) Udemy course available to show you the way. Most courses are a combination of video lectures and interactive slides. They range in price from completely free to a couple hundred dollars at the most. However, many of their most popular courses cost less than $50. Udemy is my go-to source when I want to learn something new.
Transcribe Anywhere
General transcription is one of the most flexible work from home jobs out there — but it’s not for everyone. Not only do you need the ability to type quickly and accurately, you also have to simultaneously listen to audio and transcribe what is being said, a skill that often takes time to master. That’s why it’s a good idea to first check out the free 7-day course over at Transcribe Anywhere which will give you a good understanding of what general transcription is and whether it’s a good fit for you. If so, great! There’s a more intensive course you can take that will prepare you to launch your own lucrative career as a general transcriptionist.
Proofread Anywhere
Are you the person people turn to when they need a document reviewed? Do you always notice misspellings, grammar mistakes and other typos when reading? If so, you might just make a great proofreader! The only course of its kind, Proofread Anywhere will teach you how to become a transcript proofreader for court reporters. This can be an extra income generator or a full-time career. To see if a transcript proofreader is something you could see yourself doing, take the completely free 7-day intro course first. From there, you can take the full course and be well on your way to your new career.
Kindle App
There are so many helpful e-books out there about working from home and freelancing. One of the best ways to read them all is to download the Kindle App. It’s completely free and available for most devices. So, whenever you’re waiting around, say at the doctor’s, in line, or have a few free minutes, you can access all your favorite ebooks. With the Kindle App, you can easily learn the ins and out of working remotely while on the go.
Kindle Unlimited
The perfect complement to the free Kindle App is Kindle Unlimited. It’s a monthly subscription that lets you read unlimited Kindle Unlimited titles. Sign up for the free month of Kindle Unlimited to see just how valuable it is — the subscription usually pays for itself after you read a couple of books. The free Kindle App combined with Kindle Unlimited are what I used to launch a freelance writing career with absolutely no experience — and it cost less than $30!
